Workshop "Filaments and textures"

The main objective of the workshop is to model the clay directly with our hands,
without tools. In this way we will commune immediately with the clay and directly transmit our feelings.

With the technique of "launch" we will make; textured slabs, flat, square and rectangular filaments.

Creation of stone textures using pigmented cookies.

Through the application of pigments, glaze, powder and liquid directly onto wet clay whit a brush, toothbrush, strainer, etc. we are able to create works with only one firing.

1st day:

Slideshow. Trajectory. Technical issues. Questions.

Construction of plates without mechanical means. Throwing technique.

Application of pigments mixed with transparent matt powder glaze with a
strainer and a brush to generate a double texture.
Realization of two pieces applying the previous processes.

Explanation of the modeling of square filaments by the throwing technique.
Application of pigments with transparent glaze in liquid with a toothbrush on raw clay.
Stoneware powder texture technique.

Loading the kiln with the pieces created for drying.

They will be in the kiln overnight at 80ºC.

2nd day:

Slideshow on powder cracking techniques and stone textures.

Explanation of stony texture with pieces of pigmented cookies.
Construction of a cube using the technique of plates from the previous day and the
texture of cookies. Assembly by pressure and striking using two pieces of wood.

Explanation of the modeling of flat filaments by the throwing technique.
Application of coloring pigments with transparent glaze in liquid with a toothbrush on raw clay.
Assembly of filaments on the cube previously made.

Firing.

3rd day:

Slideshow on elongated square filaments.

Explanation of the modeling of elongated square filaments with the throwing
technique.
We will use a rolling pin to build different sculptural or functional pieces applying the pigments mixed with transparent matt powder glaze on wood.
We will build another piece with the rolling pin and pigmented plates brushed on and stretched until we achieve a surface textura.

Opening of the kiln, discussion about the results obtained and packaging.

During the workshop we will make five pieces, only the two pieces made on the first day will be fired.

If anyone would like a firing service for the rest of the pieces, the cost would be 40 €, and the pieces will be collected in one week. (Subject to availability). No shipments will be made once the pieces have been fired.

The workshop includes materials, one firing, lunch, and use of the pool.
