Workshop "Experimental techniques"

In this Workshop we will work with unconventional materials like; cardboard, sponges, wax paper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, etc.
All this mixed with stoneware, porcelain, pigments, glass, glaze ..., in powder and liquid.
We will discover how all these techniques can be applied not only to sculptures but also adapt them to the functional ceramic style.
If you are interested in taking both workshops, we recommend taking "Filaments and Textures" first.
Dates:
July, 10, 11, 12 / August, 14, 15, 16
September, 4, 5, 6 / October, 16, 17, 18
Price: 700 € (3 days/Intensive)
(Spanish and English)
Schedule: 9:30 / 4:30 pm ( 1h. lunch)
1st day:
Slideshow. Trajectory. Technical issues. Questions.
Experimental construction with "cardboard" as a base.
We
will apply several layers of stoneware and porcelain slip mixed with toilet
paper on the cardboard piece until it is thick enough for the piece to have
consistency.
We will apply several pigments mixed with glaze, powder and liquid.
We will also apply powdered stoneware and porcelain mixed with glaze to create crackled textures.
Experimental construction with "sponges".
We will work with sponges of different types
showing several modeling options to look the different results after firing.
Preparation of porcelain and glaze mixture for immersion. Several explanations about glaze percentages and colors.
The sponges will be put in the kiln overnight to dry. (80ºC)
2nd day:
Slideshow explaining powder textures and construction of powder pieces.
We will take the sponges out of the kiln once they are completely dry and we will apply pigments to the dry sponges using liquid and powder matte clear glaze.
We will also apply a mixture of porcelain and dense matte clear glaze for a crackle effect. This last mixture will also be applied in powder form before the previous one has completely dried.
Explanation of the use of wax paper and aluminum foil for transfer as decoration and also as sculptures.
Preparation of a mixture of porcelain and glass as well as different pigments mixed with transparent matte glaze in powder and liquid.
We will build a piece with this technique by adding stoneware and we will also apply it as a transfer on our piece of cardboard or on the sponge.
Explanation of the plastic wrap technique for using different colored or pigmented clays in contact without contamination. Construction of several plates.
Firing.
3rd day:
We will construct several stoneware cylinders with the roller pin and decorate them with; cotton string, sugar cubes, masking tape for making color reservations, plastic wrap, pigments mixed with clear matte powder and liquid glaze, as examples of decoration.
Demonstration of applying powdered coloring pigments using an air compressor in a closed box.
After lunch, we will open the kiln and discuss the results.
It is recommended that you read the terms and conditions carefully.
If you have any questions before purchasing the workshop, such as how to get to the studio and where to stay, you will find some practical advice in the contact / how to get here/accommodation
